State Senate President Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) says the towns of Canterbury, Mansfield, and Scotland have been awarded grants under the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP).
“These projects have the potential to put people to work and improve quality of life for families in Canterbury, Mansfield, and Scotland,” said Senator Williams. “Without the state funding, these initiatives either don’t happen or the local taxpayer has to pick up the tab.”
The grants include:
The STEAP pays for economic development projects for municipalities that are too small to receive Urban Action bond funds. The budget passed by the legislature last year included $20 million in STEAP funding for 2008 and 2009.
“I am pleased that Gov. Rell’s office chose to release the funding and follow through on the important legislation that we passed two years ago,” said Senator Williams. “By working together, we are helping small towns make smart investments.”
