State Senator Jonathan Harris

Senator Harris joins West Hartford Kiwanis Club President Motkue Bowles, volunteers and participants at the award ceremony for the August 2008 “Lose The Training Wheels” program at Hall High School. Sponsored by the West Hartford Kiwanis Club, more than three-dozen children ages 8 to 18 with special needs learned how to ride a two-wheeled bicycle by attending five hour-long sessions. The program uses a specially designed bicycle referred to as an “adapted roller trainer bike.”Children pedal a series of trainer bikes which are designed to be ultra-stable and then progress towards conventional two-wheeled bicycles. The adapted trainers are intended as stepping-stones to allow the children to graduate onto conventional bikes and become successful riders. (August 14, 2008)
