State Senator Edward Meyer

Senator Meyer spoke at the Barnard Environmental Studies Magnet School in New Haven against Governor Rell's proposed 50 percent cut of $2 million to Connecticut's Healthy Foods program. The lelgislation creating the programs was sponsored by Senator Meyer in 2006 and helps subsidize nutritious meals for 63 percent of state school districts. Democrats have agreed to reduce the program's funding by 25 percent but believe that deeper cuts will hurt struggling families and increase childhood obesity. (August 24, 2009)
