Hartley Welcomes Over 100 Waterbury Residents To Senior Fair

Senator Hartley stops to speak with a Waterbury resident during today’s senior fair at the Waterbury Senior Center. The fair featured over a dozen local and state agencies who distributed information ranging from consumer protection, nutrition, driver’s licenses and public transportation.

WATERBURY—Dozens of state and local agencies were on hand at today’s senior fair hosted by State Senator Joan Hartley (D-Waterbury) offering valuable information to residents about living longer, safer and healthier lives.

“Today’s senior fair served as a one-stop shop of valuable information for Waterbury seniors,” said Sen. Hartley. “Its robust attendance bears witness to the fact that this kind of event is very purposeful. I would like to thank all the agencies who participated and give a special thanks to all our seniors who came out and attended.”

Over 100 seniors participated in this year’s fair and left with valuable information from a slew of agencies including St. Mary’s Hospital, Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, Waterbury Visiting Nurse Association, the Connecticut Legislative Commission On Aging, CT Fast Track, state Department of Insurance, state Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.

“Senior citizens have no greater friend in Hartford than Senator Hartley,” said Waterbury Probate Judge Tom Brunnock. “This was a great opportunity for seniors to learn about the different agencies available to help them. That fact that Senator Hartley put this together for our seniors is amazing.”

Mary Bossie, a Waterbury Resident and soon-to-be retiree, was also at today’s event.

“I think it’s great to put all the information that people need in one place. I’ve never seen something like this before. I’m getting ready to retire so it’s nice to learn about the different agencies available if I ever need assistance,” Bossie said.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Waterbury’s older adults to access valuable health services and information about the many excellent community resources available to them,” said New Opportunities Director Mary-Kate Gil. “Thanks so much to Senator Hartley for making this senior fair available to the Waterbury community.”

“The Legislative Commission on Aging is grateful to Senator Hartley for holding this senior fair,” said Executive Director Julia Evans Starr. “By empowering people with aging-related resources and information, we can enhance the lives of present and future generations of older adults.”

Participants at the fair were able to get information related to nutrition, housing, unclaimed property and cash, consumer protection and more.
