Senate Democratic leaders today issued the following statements regarding Governor Malloy’s decision to sign the recently approved bipartisan state budget into law:
“I want to thank Governor Malloy for his leadership and for signing the bipartisan budget into law,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Martin M. Looney (D-New Haven). “This budget truly meets the needs of our state by investing in our workforce, our students and our state colleges and universities, while providing cities, towns and boards of education with certainty and predictability. At the same time, this budget makes important systemic reforms that will result in significant long-term savings and pays down Connecticut’s pension liabilities.
“I appreciate the patience of Connecticut’s residents. Reaching a bipartisan agreement was a difficult process but it was the right course for Connecticut to take. I am confident that now that this budget is law, legislators will be able to work with the governor to make any technical fixes which may be necessary,” Sen. Looney said
“Today is a positive day for Connecticut,” said Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff (D-Norwalk). “The bipartisan budget protects taxpayers and businesses, prioritizes students and education, invests in our economy and makes responsible long-term reforms. Starting today, communities and school districts across the state will have the resources they need to provide services and educate our students.
“I want to thank the legislative leaders from both parties for their hard work and commitment to delivering a bipartisan budget. I want to express my appreciation to Governor Malloy for signing the bipartisan budget into law so Connecticut can move forward and focus on the work of creating jobs, growing our economy and delivering an excellent quality of life,” Sen. Duff said.
The bipartisan budget was approved by a 33-3 vote of the State Senate.
