Moore Joins Frenchtown Elementary Students to Honor Veterans

TRUMBULL—State Senator Marilyn Moore (D-Bridgeport) joined Frenchtown Elementary School students this week for a “Take a Veteran to School Program,” a nationwide initiative on behalf of Frontier Communications and The History Channel. The initiative is designed to educate students on the history of our country’s military and the importance of Veterans Day.

“Veterans Day is a time to remember and pay homage to the men and women who sacrificed their lives for this country, and I was proud to share that with the students at Frenchtown Elementary,” said Sen. Moore. “It was wonderful to see how much the students understood the importance of Veterans Day and the level of excitement they had during the ceremony.”

“Frontier takes great pride in being a company that not only supports the troops, but provides real-world careers for service members once they return from duty,” said Senior Vice President and General Manager for Frontier’s Connecticut Operations Paul Quick. “Nationwide, 13 percent of our company is made up of veterans, and I’m proud to say that 255 of those employees are located right here in Connecticut.”

Over the past month, students in grades 3-5 have been learning about the different branches of the United States military, as well as the history behind why Veterans Day is celebrated. The History Channel provided teachers with grade-specific lesson plans and study guides. The program culminated in an assembly with local veterans sharing stories of service with the students.
