Senators Introduce Bill to Protect and Support Casino Jobs and Tourism in Connecticut

Senate Senator Tim Larson (D-East Hartford) Wednesday introduced a bill to protect jobs in the state and grow Connecticut’s tourism industry.

Senate Bill 907, An Act Concerning the Regulation of Gaming and the Authorization of a Casino Gaming Facility in the State, will first be heard in the Public Safety and Security Committee.

“I am pleased this this bill is moving on to the next step,” said Sen. Larson. “Feedback and full transparency will be critical to this process, and so I look forward to hearing from all interested parties. The Mashantucket Pequots and Mohegans have added tremendously to our state’s economy over the years and this new joint venture will do for gaming in our state what Pratt & Whitney and Sikorsky are doing for manufacturing.”

The proposed legislation has the support of Senator Cathy Osten (D-Sprague) and Senator Paul Formica (R-East Lyme), who have been staunch supporters of protecting gaming and tourism related jobs in eastern Connecticut and throughout the state.

“I am fully supportive of Connecticut’s casinos, which have proved to be excellent business partners to our state and an invaluable part of our tourism economy and I believe this is good legislation that should receive bipartisan support,” said Sen. Osten. “Good paying jobs in the gaming industry are the backbone of tourism in Connecticut.”
