Statement of State Senator Cathy Osten (D-Sprague), Senate Co-Chair of the Appropriations Committee, on the Approval of Labor Concessions by Connecticut State Employees:

“I’m grateful to the tens of thousands of men and women working for the State of Connecticut for making a personal sacrifice that will help balance a state budget deficit that they had no role in creating.

“As they have in the past, Connecticut’s state employees have stepped up to plate and voted to create hundreds of millions of dollars in savings for the State of Connecticut—savings that will be used to fund municipal aid, education, social services, transportation and other state programs. These programs would have seen further, devastating cuts without these savings.

“Now it is the legislature’s turn to accept these concessions in the same good faith that they were negotiated, and to pass a bipartisan budget that the people of Connecticut want and expect from their elected representatives.

“Again, I thank our state employees for stepping up and providing the cost-saving concessions that they always have.”
