Glastonbury Resident Mark Boxer Clears First Hurdle for UCONN Board of Trustees Appointment

Glastonbury resident and Cigna executive Mark L. Boxer is a “perfect fit” for the UCONN Board of Trustees, state Senator Steve Cassano (D-Manchester) said today as Boxer appeared before the legislature’s Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee for his preliminary confirmation hearing.

The Committee approved Boxer’s nomination today on a unanimous and bipartisan vote; his nomination by Governor Dannel P. Malloy now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration.

“Mark’s background as a UCONN alumni, and what he has been able to do on campus over the past decade, makes him a perfect fit for the Board of Trustees,” Sen. Cassano said. “I look forward to seeing him on the UCONN Board of Trustees. I think Mark will do a great job.”

Boxer is executive vice president and global chief information officer for Cigna, which is headquartered in Bloomfield. Boxer received an MBA in Finance from UCONN in 1987, and has served on UConn’s Business Advisory Board and on the UCONN Foundation.

Boxer has also served as a UCONN campus sponsor for Cigna, and along with Cigna has implemented two on-campus innovative centers: one for digital media, and the other for software engineering.

“Education has been at the core of my personal and my professional success, and UCONN has been a very large part of that. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it were not for the University of Connecticut, so I look forward very much to serving on the UCONN Board of Trustees,” Boxer said.

The UCONN Board of Trustees is a 21-member panel that meets about eight times a year to debate and vote on various university-related matters, such as budgets, contracts, degree programs, student life, campus projects, and other academic and financial matters.
