Today, State Senator Martha Marx (D-New London) welcomed the Community Investment Fund Board’s recommendation that the Fund provide $2.663 million to Montville’s Camp Oakdale to allow for recreational complex improvements.

The funding, contingent on the approval of the State Bond Commission in the next two months, will be used to modernize, expand and enhance the complex, adding new amenities and opportunities for members of the public to utilize its resources.

“It’s wonderful to know Montville is one step closer to receiving these funds for a transformational project to add new features to Camp Oakdale and make sure it can meet local demand for outdoor recreation,” said Sen. Marx. “A new splash pad and disc golf course will be fun new additions drawing people to the complex, while the safety upgrades mean a significant improvement in local safety. I am excited to see this funding’s final confirmation so this project can deliver good results to the community.”

The $2.663 million will provide support for new amenities and upgrades and improvements to heavily used and aging facilities. Specifically, the work in question will include new security cameras, drainage updates, a 2,000-square-foot splash pad, LED lighting upgrades, sidewalk replacements, new bathrooms compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, a full disc golf course, a replacement of an existing exercise course, a paved multi-use accessible trail and accessibility improvements.

The new amenities are expected to require minimal maintenance while accessibility upgrades will increase access for local residents. The work is meant to build on years of investments by Montville leaders for maintenance and staff training and improvements to field quality.
