Senator James Maroney Releases Statement Following Opening Day Remarks
Today, State Senator James Maroney (D-Milford) was sworn in to serve his second term representing the 14th district
“I am honored to be able to represent Milford, Orange, West Haven, and Woodbridge up in Hartford,” said Sen. Maroney. “I pledge to continue working hard to justify the trust that people have placed in me. We have a big task ahead of us to help rebuild Connecticut after the pandemic, and I look forward to working together to make Connecticut even a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Senator Maroney will also be serving on six separate committees. Sen. Maroney was named co-Chair of the General Law and Regulations Review committees, Vice Chair of the Veterans committee, a member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding committee, a member of the Insurance and Real Estate committee, and a member of the Higher Education Committee. The session will continue throughout the next several months, mostly remote and will adjourn on June 9, 2021.

Today, Senate President Pro Tempore Martin M. Looney and Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff released a statement following Governor Ned Lamont’s virtual address to the General Assembly.
“We look forward to another productive two years working together with Governor Lamont and our colleagues in the House to better Connecticut for all residents. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted everyone in our state, caused untold loss, and fundamentally changed daily life. The 2021 legislative session will be like no other and our focus will be to protect the public’s health and help people recover economically, physically, and mentally. Connecticut has taken appropriate and responsible measures to protect people in our state but there is more work to be done. We know that by continuing to follow the science and care for our neighbors we will get through this together.”

In response to Governor Lamont’s statements on the need to enact health reforms in 2021, the Senate and House co-Chairs of the Insurance & Real Estate Committee and House co-Chair of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee put out the following statements.
“The pandemic puts health care reform right at the top of our agenda for 2021,” said Sen. Matt Lesser, co-Chair of the Insurance & Real Estate Committee. “I welcome Governor Lamont’s comments today and look forward to working closely with him as we work to pass big, comprehensive health reform. We’ll be tackling critical issues of equity and affordability, and will work to help the residents of Connecticut get the coverage they need in this critical time.”
Governor Lamont lists “affordable healthcare as a basic human right” and declares that “after COVID, we have a renewed understanding that affordable, quality healthcare is not only essential to us as individuals, but critically important for the well-being of our communities.”
“I’m looking forward to working with the Governor as well as my legislative colleagues to reduce the rising costs of health care and prescription drugs,” said Rep. Kerry Wood, co-Chair of the Insurance & Real Estate Committee.
